Sound levels at South West Four and Get Loaded 09
We have received complaints / comments from some people that visited this year’s SW4 and Get Loaded. These were either sent directly to us or were read on chat forums. Now that most people with opinions have said their piece, we feel it is time that Lock N Load Events have their say.
We understand that some feel frustrated with the current levels at these events. No one feels more frustrated than us about this subject. We spend a lot of time and money staging events for the entertainment of the public and want nothing more than everyone to be content. We believe that the sound levels should be higher.
However, the Council set sound restrictions in our License which we MUST adhere to. Unfortunately these are not easy to work to. We do the best within the parameters set. We employ one of the best PA companies in the country as well as some of the best noise consultants. This year, we had a state of the art monitoring system at the event.
For those that are targeting the PA systems used as the crux of the sound problems, this is not the reason at all. If only it were that simple! It is all about staying within levels set by the Council. The set monitoring points are not actually on the event site but offsite at certain local residential houses. Sound is heavily affected by a variety of issues. Atmospheric conditions play a big part and at the events just gone the wind made life very difficult for us.
The bottom line on sound at both our events is that we have no choice but to respect licensing levels if we wish to continue staging these events. However, do not think that we are not always trying to improve matters. We are. Stage 2 (Gallery / Xfm) suffered with the worst levels at this year’s festivals and we are already completely redesigning that end of the site in order to push that stage’s location past its nearest offsite monitoring position. This, we hope, will allow us to reach better levels in 2010. We are also in discussion with the Council in order to see if we can somehow improve the levels set in our License.
So please rest assured that we are doing everything we can within the parameters we have to work in. We are hoping that the 2010 levels will be higher although please do not think that we will ever reach ‘ear bleed’ levels because that will never be possible.
It must also be said that many inner city events suffer with similar problems. It is becoming the way of things. It seems that the Reading festival has been severely affected for the last two years, forcing the man in charge to go public on NME.com about these problems.
We will keep everyone updated on any developments on our websites.
