About Guide Ezra Flom:
Ezra Flom has led Jewish educational outdoor experiences as far North as Quebec, as far West as Catalina Island, and as far East as the Colorado River.
Mr. Flom enjoys leading hikes and connecting Jewish concepts and identity to the experiences found in nature. Presently, he is serving as the Green Coordinator for the Jewlicious Festival.
About the hike:
The trail is about 1 mile each way; hiking boots are not necessary but it is important to have footwear that will stay on your feet and not slip on the rocks.
This hike is an easy but enjoyable walk through a partially dry stream bed up through Eaton Canyon and up toward a gorgeous 50-foot waterfall. The trail will involve a number of small stream crossings during which you may get your feet wet and a walking over and around rocks of various sizes.
The payoff - other than the scenery and good company - is a surprisingly pristine pool at the base of the waterfall in which we can go swimming.
Feel free to come just to enjoy the scenery; Mr. Flom will be sharing information about the ecology, biology and history of the site for those who are interested. After arriving at the destination, there will be a discussion about the experience of walking the trail and about Tu B’Shvat.
Directions: Take the 210 East until you reach the Altadena/Sierra Madre Exit. Make a left of the exit to go North on Altadena. Follow Altadena - past the Nature Center - until you get to Roosevelt. Park there either on one of the streets or in the dirt on the right side of the road.
